Thermoplastic starch blends

Thermoplastic starch blends for compostable applications involve preparing TPS from starch granules and then combining it with bioplastics like biodegradable copolyester (PBAT), polylactic acid (PLA) or polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). The resin grades meet the compostability standards EN 13432 and ASTM D6400. They are made from starch granules of different sources such as corn, wheat, potato or tapioca.

Heat-resistant PLA

Heat-resistant polylactic acid (PLA) for compostable applications are resin grades that simultaneously display high impact strength and heat stability. The resin grades meet the compostability standards EN 13432 and ASTM D6400. They are suitable for injection moulding and extrusion thermoforming.

Durable biobased blends

Durable biobased blends are formulations designed to provide both high performance and high biobased content and be cost-effective. They are developed with a specific application, process and resin as references, as well as defined targets for biobased content, functional performance and cost.

Novel recycled resins

Cerestech, using a recycling technology developed at the École Polytechnique of Montreal, is investigating the potential of producing HDPE or PP grade resins from an unsorted recycled stream of various polymers. This technology uses recycled polypropylene (PP) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) as matrix polymers. The resulting blends display very high property retention relative to the pure polyolefins.

Injection Molding

Cerestech, through its various partnerships, is able to propose solutions that will meet requirements for compostability or biobased content, while performing according to functional performance and cost targets. We are able to offer injection moulding blends for disposable or durable applications, including high impact and high heat resistance.

Film Blowing

Cerestech offers both certified compostable and high bio-content sustainable biopolymers for film blowing applications. Through blends of highly plasticized thermoplastic starch (TPS) with compostable polymers such as PBAT, PLA, PHA or PCL, we can offer cost-effective, high performance formulations in applications such as mulch films or compostable bags. If biobased content is the primary objective, we can create high performance polyolefin – TPS blends that will display excellent retention of mechanical properties.

Thermoforming

Cerestech currently offers heat resistant PLA for thermoforming applications that simultaneously require high impact strength and heat stability. The resin grades meet the compostability standards EN 13432 and ASTM D6400.
